The Issues2nd Amendment Ronald Reagan said: “I don’t think that making it difficult for law-abiding citizens to obtain guns will lower the crime rate – not when the criminals will always find a way to get them." Until the recent Court decision, Washington, DC had some of the most freedom-restricting laws regarding the right to keep and bear arms. They also had the highest per capita violent crime and murder rate. One hundred miles away in West Virginia, citizens have the right to keep and bear arms and very little crime. Florida has been a leader in preserving 2nd Amendment Freedom. During my time in the legislature, we worked to punish crimes committed with a gun and kept gun ownership lawful and free. The Second Amendment Saves Lives – My Personal Story Talita, a 24-year-old off-duty police officer was a passenger in her personal car with her 2-year-old daughter in the rear infant seat. That evening she did not have her weapon. The driver, her friend and partner, had his. The vehicle had just come to a stop. Suddenly, two carjackers appeared and started firing at the occupants. The 24-year-old mom threw her child to the ground and herself atop the infant. Her partner fired back at the assailants. After a short time, the attackers fled. Their auto had absorbed dozens of shots. Miraculously, none of the occupants were injured. To this day, it still seems impossible to have survived the attack and even more so to be physically unscathed. Seven years after the attack, I married Talita
and became a dad to a 9-year-old little girl. The story puts an
exclamation point on my belief that law-abiding citizens should be
allowed to keep and bear arms. I believe this is a self-defense
issue. I believe this is a Constitutional right that should never be
infringed. |
