The Issues

Patients must be free to choose Doctors, Practitioners, Providers and methods of care. Competition helps the consumer and begets better quality and decreased cost. Interestingly, the two areas of our economy where prices have increased instead of decreased are healthcare and education. In both those areas, competition has been artificially restricted by government.

We must be free to choose from a variety of health plans that meet our individual family needs. I would choose a Medical Savings Account with a catastrophic policy attached. Others may prefer more of a plan that has more benefits. Still for others, an HMO may satisfy their family’s needs.

I also endorse Medical Savings Accounts because they reward patients for staying healthy. And patients are more likely to shop for a better price. This is not the preference of doctors and practitioners, but it is not about them, it is about the patients. Those doctors and practitioners, who create value, get results and keep patients healthy will succeed.

I always hear: “my insurance paid for it.” In other words we all pay for it in the form of higher insurance premiums. This has discouraged patients from acting as consumers and taking responsibility for their health. A shift towards Medical Savings Accounts would prevent this.

Now we face a danger as this Administration plans to force upon us a nationalized health care plan that makes “Hillary Care” look like free market capitalism. We must therefore return to the document that our Founders gave us. The 10th Amendment states: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution nor prohibited by it to the States are reserved to the States respectively or to the people.

The Federal Government has no jurisdiction over health care. With this in mind I further call for a State Sovereignty Resolution similar to one filed in New Hampshire.
